General Information
Houston Choral Showcase has two performance seasons. The Fall season runs from mid-August to mid-December with an emphasis on winter holiday music. The Spring season starts in mid-January and ends in mid-June.
Rehearsals are held Monday evenings from 7-9:45pm at Zion Lutheran Church in The Heights, 3606 Beauchamp, Houston, TX 77009 (see a map and get driving directions on the Find Us page).
This mixed show choir performs four-part choral arrangements of songs in a variety of popular styles, including pop, jazz, swing, gospel and show tunes. Choreographed movement and staging are an integral part of performances, along with vibrant costumes and props.
In addition to producing one or two ticketed shows per season, Houston Choral Showcase is also hired to perform at private and public events. The group makes regular appearances at major public events such as the Nutcracker Market, holiday tree lighting ceremonies, and arts festivals.
Audition Information
Auditions take place at our regular rehearsal location, and are open to men and women age 21 and over. Voice parts include soprano, alto, tenor and bass.
The audition is divided into two phases. After signing in, candidates first meet as a group with the Director for an assessment of basic music ability (singing scales, participating in pitch-matching exercises, simple sight reading, etc.).
After that session, those invited to continue proceed to the general rehearsal. The entire group will start to work on new pieces, and the rehearsal will include both singing and choreography. At the end of the evening, membership candidates who wish to complete the audition will participate in a mixed quartet to sing music worked on that evening.
No prepared solos are needed for the audition. Membership candidates will be expected to show evidence that they can:
- hold their part in a mixed group
- learn music quickly and correctly
Audition results may be announced that evening or at a later date during the audition period. Those receiving an invitation to join may confirm their membership by paying membership dues of $80 and submitting a membership agreement form.
If you have any further questions about the Houston Choral Showcase audition process, you are invited to call the hotline at 281-346-0161 or email the Director.
